Beach Themed Wedding Invitations

A beach wedding asks more of its invitation than most. Guests need to know how to dress, and the backup-plan depending on what the weather might do - and the invitation is where they start working it out.

Beach, coastal or tropical?

Three different days. Coastal is muted and Australian — sand tones, soft blues, a quiet nod to the water rather than a picture of it. Beach is more literal: the sea, the horizon, bare feet in the ceremony photographs. Tropical is the loudest of the three, palms and bright colour, and it belongs to a destination wedding or a tropical themed location.

What to tell guests on a beach wedding invitation

More than you would for a church. Say the dress code plainly, because “beach formal” means nothing to half your guest list — mention that heels will sink if the ceremony is on sand, and that it will be cooler once the sun drops. If guests are driving somewhere remote, or parking is a walk away, that belongs on a details card rather than squeezed onto the invitation itself.

Guests who arrive dressed for the right weather enjoy the day more, and it costs you one line on the details card to make that happen.
