What is a birth announcement?

A card sent after the birth to tell family and friends that the baby has arrived, and to give them her details. It comes after the baby shower invitation, which goes out before she does.

It can also do the work of a thank you card. How do you write a birth announcement?

Six things, and nothing more: her full name, her date of birth, her weight and length if you want them, the time she arrived, the parents' names, and a line of welcome. Most announcements read better with a photo and fewer words than with a paragraph and no photo.
